We have to live
By Zelonoye Derevo
Traveling, moving,
on the road nonstop—
can’t stop, can’t think,
just waiting for the next stop.
Hours pass,
but for me the world stops
until I get there.
Is this how it should be?
Maybe life just keeps going
even when I’m on the run.
Siren rings—
everyone is running.
Do I live from alarm to alarm?
Stop my shower to go to the shelter?
Wake at 1 a.m. to run again?
Every two minutes, maybe there’ll be another alarm.
Or can I just… live?
I slept late last night,
there was a wedding, a party.
I got a cold.
Does everything have to stop
until I’m better?
Or can I just live,
do what I have to do,
even on the road,
even with alarms,
even sick and sleepless?
We have to live.
We can’t let it all stop us.
