Parshas HaChodesh

Parshas HaChodesh
Painting by Mayer Kirshenblatt

Can you step in rhythm with the sun,
To guide your days and years?
Yet also watch the flexing moon,
Harnessed with your hopes and fears?

Can you obey the dictates of the season,
Adjust your timing, synchronize?
Tune yourself to long/short days,
Around the spheres you organize?

Can you take account of aeons’ motion,
But sharp attend to micro shifts?
See history to end from its creation,
Constrain prayer time, not go adrift?

Can you choose to labor with full purpose,
But notice sun sky glorify?
Can you see the sliver of the moon,
And say this I choose to sanctify?

Can you be the master of your watch,
Tack your sails to life’s design?
Align moon wisdom with sun reliance,
Calm at the centre of plan Divine?

Then you will be all set to leave
The limiting life of the distracted
To see that G-d in you believes
His first commandment thus enacted.
