Chanukah In the snow

Chanukah In the snow

Chanukah in the snow, was that not my best childhood dream?

Chanukah in the snow, was that not what Chanukah was in all the story books?

I dream of looking at my father lighting the menorah with a backdrop of beautiful white snow falling right out the window. I imagine myself watching the bright little flames burning against the fresh snow. I take a deep breath as I smile and say “Oh this is Chanukah”.

Then I awake. That’s just another dream, I realize. Nothing more. Yes. Just a dream.

Don’t you know, Chabad doesn’t light the menorah by the window. We do it by our dining room doorway. Yes. Can you imagine? The backdrop is a wooden door post. Yes. All the romance is gone.

I know, It’s sad, today the first night of Chanukah the snow gently falls from the sky and just like you I wonder. Yes. I wonder just like you.

I ask; Is it even worth it? Chanukah in the snow. Is there a point now?

Chanukah in the snow, are you worth it?

Chanukah in the snow, I hope you are. I still dream of you.
